Man arrested for close to R2m's worth of drugs

Western Cape police arrested a 31-year-old suspect on Tuesday after he was caught with close to R2 million’s worth of drugs.

Police say it received a tipoff about drugs activities taking place at a block of flats situated in Bellville.

‘’The members initiated a search and discovered a substantial consignment of drugs consisting 34 210 mandrax tablets,1kg of Crystal meth (tik) and an undisclosed amount of cash, believed to be the proceeds of the illicit drug trade. The members arrested a 31-year-old Nigerian national who stands accused of dealing in drugs of which the confiscated items are estimated at a value of R2 million,’’ said Lt Col Malcolm Pojie, Western Cape police spokesperson.

The suspect will appear in the Bellville Magistrates’ court, once charged.
