A suspected gang-related shooting has claimed the life of a 34-year-old man in Ottery. Police say officers attended to the crime scene in Autumn Close, on Friday morning.
‘’Members were dispatched
to attend to a murder scene at Autumn Close, Ottery at about 10:30 on Friday,
11 April 2025. Upon arrival they found the body of a 34 year old male victim
who had succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body,’’ said Lieutenant
Colonel Malcolm Pojie, Western Cape police spokesperson.
He said it is reported
that two unknown suspects accosted the deceased and opened fire on him.
The circumstances
surrounding the murder forms part of ongoing investigation… The motive appears
to be gang related,’’ said Pojie.
Meanwhile, a man
escaped death as he was shot and in order to save his life, he ran to Ottery
Hyper to escape the ordeal
‘’This office can
confirm that police members responded to a complaint of a shooting and upon
arrival on the scene it was established that the victim was shot at another
location and ran to the shopping centre where he collapsed. Police are
investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and registered and an
attempted murder case for investigation.
The 48-year-old victim was taken to a medical facility for medical treatment,’’
said Sergeant Wesley Twigg, Western Cape police spokesperson.
