Three people sustain fatal burns wounds in seperate incidents

The City of Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue Services had a busy day on Sunday, as it responded to various fires in the metro.

Spokesperson, Jermaine Carelse said no injuries or fatalities were reported after informal dwellings were alight in Joe Slovo Park in Milnerton.

‘’The City’s Fire & Rescue Service received the call of informal dwellings alight in hlanaga Street, Joe Slovo Park in Milneration at 03:11 on Sunday 6 April. Thirteen firefighting vehicles responded to the incident and the fire was extinguished after 08:00. No injuries or fatalities were reported.’’

Carelse said an adult sustained fatal burn wounds after informal dwellings were alight in Vrygrond.

‘’The City’s Fire & Rescue Service received the call of informal dwellings alight in Vrygrond just after midnight on Sunday 6 April. Three motor pumps and two water tankers were on scene and the fire was extinguished at 02:08. One adult, gender unknonwn, sustained fatal burn wounds.’’

In Forest Village, Eerste river, two people, including a 7-year-old boy sustained fatal burn wounds.

‘’The City’s Fire & Rescue Service received the call of a formal dwelling alight in Baxter Street, Forest Village at 2.15 on Sunday 6 April.  Crews from Mfuleni, Khayelitsha and Strand responded. One adult and a male minor susatined fatal burn wounds. The scene was handed over to the South African Police Service,’’ said Jermaine Carelse, City of Cape Town Fire & rescue Service spokesperson.

Western Cape police confirmed that they are probing a case of arson.

‘’Circumstances surrounding a fire at a premises in Gambia Street, Forest Village, Eersterivier on Sunday morning (2025-04-06) at about 02:15 are under investigation. Kleinvlei police registered a double murder and arson case for investigation. According to reports SAPS members on duty attended to a complaint of a house on fire at the mentioned address. On their arrival they found the Fire brigade already busy extinguishing the fire. When the fire was extinguished,  the bodies of a seven year old boy and an unidentified person were found inside the house. Investigation continues, no arrest,’’ said Captain F.C Van Wyk, Western Cape police spokesperson.
