What was meant to be a place of safety for learners turned into panic as alleged gangsters stormed a Mitchell’s Plain school on Tuesday afternoon.
Acting Principal at Mitchell’s Plain High School, Ms. R. Parker, sent a message to parents informing them that
learners will be dismissed early, following ‘’an active threat on our premises.’’
Upon enquiries from Bush Radio
News to the Western Cape Education Department (WCED), it is understood that
about ten alleged gang members jumped over the fence of the school, situated in
Merrydale Avenue, allegedly looking for someone residing close by. It is reported
that the alleged gang fled the scene as soon as law enforcement officers
arrived on the scene.
WCED expressed dismay.
‘’We are grateful that SAPS
and law enforcement were on the scene quickly to assist us. Law enforcement
also assisted us by escorting learners off the school premises this afternoon,’’
said Bronagh Hammond, WCED spokesperson.
Hammond says law enforcement officers
will patrol the area on Wednesday.
