Learners and staff at Al-Waqiah Academy in Montrose Park, Lentegeur, Mitchell’s Plain, were dismissed early on Friday, after the school received a bomb threat.
In a statement, the Al-Waqiah Academy Management said it
received the bomb threat via WhatsApp.
‘’The South African police Service (SAPS), the Masjid
Committee, Sniper, and the Crime Watch group were immediately notified. All
safety protocols were swiftly implemented. We can confirm, that all learners
and staff were safely evacuated and sent home, Their safety remains our highest
priority, and we are grateful to report that no injuries have been sustained,’’
said Mrs Z. Floris, Al-Waqiah Academy management.
Bush Radio News reached out to SAPS for comment who
confirmed the incident.
‘’ This office can confirm that a bomb threat was
reported at Lentegeur SAPS. When the members arrived, the Bomb Disposal Unit
was already at the scene. After they evacuate the premises and a thorough
search the members found no threat at the premises,’’ said Captain F.C Van Wyk,
Western Cape police spokesperson.
The incident follows two weeks after a mosque in District Six also received bomb threats.
