A manhunt is under way for a man wanted for the murder of a British resident in his Cape Town flat back in 2018.
Iryvine Dzitiro is wanted in connection with the murder of
Upendra Galegedera after he allegedly stole the victim’s car, changed the
number plates to register it in his name and then reported a theft out of the
vehicle at Sea Point police station where the murder docket had been opened.
‘’Preliminary investigations reveal that the body of a 49
year old man was discovered inside a residence in Wessels Road. The victim
sustained fatal injuries and was declared deceased on the scene by the medical
personnel. Reports suggested that a security officer noticed an unknown man
driving the motor vehicle of the deceased, a black Audi with registration
number CA 589 826. Later the day he witnessed how the same person emerged from
the flat of the deceased and decided to question the person of interest who
then fled after he threw a bag over the fence with the security officer in
pursuit,’’ said Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi, Western Cape police
spokesperson.
Police said Dzitiro, a Zimbabwean national, who resided in
the same complex, was identified as the person of interest.
The South African Police Service has offered a reward of up
to R50 000 for information that will lead to the arrest and successful
prosecution of Iryvine Dzitiro.
