College of Cape Town students protest

Approximately 150 disgruntled students protested outside the College of Cape Town’s Crawford campus on Tuesday morning. It is understood that demonstrators are unhappy about food not being delivered to their student residence, amongst others.

‘’The learners used different objects to block the roads, starting a fire to prevent community members to use the entrance to the institute. Local police members from Athlone SAPS are static at the crime scene. We can confirm that members of Public Order policing has been deployed to the area to restore calm. No one sustained any injuries and we confirm that police members did not fire any gunshots in the direction of the disgruntled learners,’’ said Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi, Western Cape police spokesperson.

Athlone police are probing a case of public violence for further investigation. No arrests has been made as yet.
