Western Cape police confiscated about R1 million worth of counterfeit goods in the West Coast this week.
Constable Ndakhe Gwala attributed the confiscation through
collaborative efforts by the Provincial Operations Command Centre, Provincial
Counterfeit and illicit Goods Policing Team, Anti-Economic task team and brand
protectors.
‘’Compliance teams visited a total of 34 commercial
premises in Vredenburg, Porterville, Piketberg, Citrusdal, Vredendal and
Clanwilliam. A total of 3 759 counterfeit items were seized during the
operation. The items range from card games, branded products, tobacco products
and accessories.’’
Police said the sale of illicit goods poses a threat not
only to consumer’s health but to legitimate businesses and our economy.
