Teenage girl fatally shot in gang crossfire in Facreton

A candlelight vigil will be held on Sunday afternoon for a teenage girl who was innocently shot and killed in Facreton on Saturday evening.

Fourteen-year-old Alnika Mitchell was caught in the crossfire on the corner of Lugmag Avenue and Ventura Street. An adult male who sustained a gunshot wound to his arm was treated on the scene.

‘’Kensington police responded to a complaint of a shooting on the corner of Lugmag Avenue and Ventura Street, Facreton, on Saturday evening, 06 December 2025, at about 19:30. Upon arrival on the scene they found the body of a 14 year old girl who sustained a gunshot wound. The victim was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel. An adult male who sustained a gunshot wound to his arm was treated on the scene. According to reports the suspect opened fire on a silver Volkswagen Polo when the victims were caught in the crossfire. The suspect fled the scene and is yet to be arrested,’’ said Sergeant Wesley Twigg, Western Cape police spokesperson.

Police are probing murder and attempted murder cases.

Mourners are set to gather at 109 Lugmag Avenue from 15:00
