Western Cape police are investigating the murders of six people that occurred in two separate incidents in the early hours of Tuesday
In the first incident, which occurred at around 02:50, four
people were shot and killed in Ndabeni. According to police, officers
discovered three women aged between 20 and 52, and a man, inside an informal
dwelling.
‘’All four victims sustained fatal gunshot wounds and were
declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel. The circumstances
surrounding the incident are under investigation and no arrests have been made,’’
said Colonel Andrè Traut, Western Cape police spokesperson.
In an unrelated incident, that occurred 5 minutes later, police
found four men with gunshot wounds at the Maitland cemetery in Voortrekker
Road, Kensington. Two of whom were found deceased. Police suspects the incident
to be gang-related.
‘’The motive for this attack is believed to be
gang-related. Anti-Gang Unit detectives are investigating two counts of murder
and two counts of attempted murder. No arrests have yet been effected,’’ said Colonel
Andrè Traut, Western Cape police spokesperson.
Police condemned the attack.
‘’The South African Police Service in the Western Cape
strongly condemns the senseless violence… The SAPS will relentlessly pursue
those responsible with the full might of the law and remains committed to
restoring safety in affected communities,’’ said Traut.
