Tension are high in Bontehuewel, following two murders that occurred days of each other.
A 28-year-old man was fatally shot in his head and back in
Karee Road, in the early hours of Tuesday.
‘’Bishop Lavis SAPS members attended a shooting complaint
in Karee Road, Bonteheuwel on Tuesday 27 January 2026, at around 02:34. Upon
arrival at the scene, they found a body of a 28-year-old male on the street
with gunshot wounds on his head and back. A case of murder was registered for
investigation; no arrest has been made yet. The motive for the shooting is yet
to be determined,’’ said Constable Ndakhe Gwala, Western Cape police
spokesperson.
A day later, a man was found deceased laying on the street
in front of a supermarket with a gunshot wound on his chest and back on the corner
of Keur and Kersboom Road.
‘’According to reports, a grey motor vehicle stopped next
to the deceased, and the occupants gave him fruit, before opening fire. The
motive for the shooting is a subject of police investigation. A case of murder
has been registered and transferred to detectives for further investigation,’’
said Gwala.
Meanwhile, Bonteheuwel ward councillor, Angus McKenzie said
these incidents come in the wake of residents raising concerns over a brewing
conflict between rival gangs over control of supposed drug turf in that part of
the area
