SANTACO Urges Calm Following Deadly Taxi-Related Shooting in Cape Town

The South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) in the Western Cape has appealed for calm after another fatal shooting linked to the taxi industry claimed four lives in Cape Town.

The incident occurred in Hazeldene near Browns Farm on Thursday, when gunmen opened fire on a group of people, killing four men and leaving two others injured.

The attack is the latest in a series of violent incidents believed to be connected to ongoing tensions within the taxi industry. Several taxi owners and drivers have been killed in and around Nyanga in recent months, raising concerns about escalating violence. No arrests have been made in connection with the latest shooting.

The incident comes shortly after rival taxi associations, the Cape Amalgamated Taxi Association (CATA) and the Congress of Democratic Taxi Associations (CODETA), pledged to pursue peace talks aimed at ending conflict within the sector.

SANTACO Western Cape spokesperson Makhosandile Tumana has called on all parties to remain calm and allow law enforcement authorities to investigate the matter. He said the organisation will continue engaging with taxi operators and associations to ensure disputes are addressed through lawful and constructive channels rather than violence.
