An investigation following three deaths in an Eastern Cape plant
The Labour Department has ordered an immediate halt to all operations at the new paint shop at Volkswagen SA in Uitenhage in the Eastern Cape. This follows the death of three Grinaker LTA workers on Tuesday. The three died when the components of a crane they were dismantling collapsed, resulting in them being trapped in the debris. One body was retrieved on Tuesday, and the remaining two on Wednesday morning. An investigation by the Labour Department is under way. The names of the deceased will only be released once their next-of-kin have been informed.
