Yet another cash in transit heist in Cape Peninsula

By Chanel September

Police are searching for a group of armed men who tried to hijack a cash van during the morning rush hour on Cape Town's Eastern Boulevard on Friday.

Spokesperson Captain Randall Stoffels said the SBV van, with four security officers, was forced to a standstill when it was hemmed in by a white Mercedes-Benz and a silver BMW.

The men got out of both vehicles and fired several shots at the security vehicle.During the cross fire a passing motorist sustained a gunshot wound to his left leg.

The armed men then left the Mercedes and BMW on the scene, instead hijacking a passing Toyota Hiace minibus.

Police have launched a search for the suspects and opened cases of Attempted Armed robbery, Attempted Murder and Vehicle hijacking for investigation.
