Three people were killed when their home caught fire at Thandukukhanya in Piet Retief this morning.
The deceased include a three-year-old girl and a one-year-old boy and a 50-year old woman.
Mpumalanga police spokesperson Inspector Thabiso Ncongwane said the woman and the children were sleeping when the house caught fire at around 3am.
According to Independent Online three other people who were also in the house were rescued by neighbours.
Two girls aged 14 and 16 and were taken to Piet Retief hospital; a 37-year old man is still in ca serious condition in hospital.
The cause of the fire is still unknown, but the police have opened a case of arson and an inquest docket has been opened.
