The bodies of two teenage girls were discovered with stab wounds at Matwabeng, near Senekal in the Free State.
The girls, aged 14 and 15, were walking to their uncle’s house at around two in the morning.
Police spokesperson Constable Mmako Mophiring said they had just got back from visiting friends when they were approached by an unknown man.
At about five-am a passer-by found the body of one of the girls who had sustained knife wounds on her chest and neck.
The second girl’s body was found by relatives about 100 metres away on the same street.
She had six stab wounds in the neck, stomach, chest and other parts of her body.
Independent Online reports that police have opened a case of murder.
