Residents of Strandfontein made their voices heard when they met with the police and the area’s Community Police Forum (CPF), about crime and four murders that took place within 14 days.

Top of the agenda was the alleged inability of the police to curb serious and violent crimes as well as drugs which has now flooded the area.

“A proper process needs conducted before they can tackle the drug outlets through the department of Justice”, says chairperson of CPF Brian Dudlow.

This came after residents threatened to take action as the Lentegeur residents did.

“The community needs to remember that there is a process which has to take place before they will see any results”, says Dudlow. He added that Cape Town mayor, Helen Zille was assisting the police to speed up the process before the crime in the area gets worse.

Residents have been encouraged by police to become more “neighbour friendly” so that the community can develop a closer relationship and partnership.

“The police promised community members that they will install CCTV cameras and increase police patrol in the area”, says Dudlow.
