A suspected family shooting occurred at a house in Avondale Terrace, Diepriver on Tuesday evening. This after police received a telephonic complaint of a shooting incident in the area.

On arrival the body of a 53-year-old man was found in a chair in the lounge with several gunshot wounds to the head. A 56-year-old woman was also found with several gunshot wounds to the head.

“She is believed to be the deceased’s wife. Even though she was still alive on the scene, she later died in hospital,” says police spokesperson Bernadine Steyn.

“A 23 year-old man believed to be the son of the two deceased was found with a gunshot wound to the head. He was taken to hospital and is in a serious condition,” says Steyn.

A revolver was found on the floor next to the man. The firearm was allegedly taken earlier by the son at a friend’s house.

The motive for the incidents seems to be of a personal nature. Two charges of murder are being investigated.
