The Independent Democrats Patricia de Lille says she wants ‘to see the list of the 30 companies that have bought booths in the network lounge for the upcoming ANC national conference in Polokwane in December.
“If there is even one parastatal, which is a public company that belongs to the people of South Africa, then its CEO must immediately be charged for squandering public money,” says de Lille.
"We, as a private company will decide what we want to do with the money," said Nic Wolpe, the project organiser for Network Lounge, the company which will be running the facility.
"The ANC leadership can interact with business in an informal alliance -it's not unusual in Britain or US politics," he said.
According to the financial daily, Wolpe ran the ANC's network lounge through his company Ukwande at the party's 2002 national conference in Stellenbosch, but was modest about how much ended up in ANC coffers.
Minister of Public Enterprises Alec Erwin received questions from ID Chief Whip Lance Greyling.
