The City of Cape Town thanks all its residents for a safe Guy Fawkes night on Monday. No adverse incidents or serious injuries occurred.
“There was a significant drop in emergency calls. Residents also had less to complain about,” says manager of the Disaster Risk Management Centre Wilfred Solomons-Johannes.
Three children were admitted to the Red Cross Children Hospital last night for fireworks-related injuries. All three were discharged after being treated.
Disaster Risk Management says it’s very thankful for the City departments that worked overtime, for the various law enforcement agencies that controlled and monitored the designated areas, the emergency medical staff, and the volunteers who provided first aid services.
“Also a word of thanks to the Fire and Rescue staff who were on full alert and the Capetonians for the safe night,” says Solomons-Johannes.
