MEC for Local Government and Housing in the Western Cape, Richard Dyanti, this morning unveiled his Integrated Development assessment ratings for the various municipalities in the Western Cape.
There are five districts along with the City of Cape Town. The West Coast, Cape Winelands, Overberg, Eden and Central Karoo district.
Out of these districts Swartland, Cape Winelands and Knysna are the top three municipalities who have exceeded the IDP requirements.
However according to the MEC, the City of Cape Town falls into the worst category compared to other metros for failing to meet all the requirements.
The requirements for a credible IDP are having a long term strategy process, clear investment target and social economic developments. It also includes public participation and being in alignment with national and provincial programmes.
“There needs to be a new generation of IDP’s, the city has failed to due to lack of public participation and not providing insight into integrated human settlements," says Dyanti.
He added that the city needs to move into excellence and must deal with the issues within the next 30 days or else necessary action will be taken.
