Fire leaves 600 homeless

A fire in the Masiphumelele informal settlement at Kommetjie in the Cape Peninsula has left some 600 people homeless.

The fire broke out at 3am this morning leaving 136 dwellings destroyed by the flames.

“After the Cape Town fire services brought the fire under control, the city’s housing department took the registrations of the victims,” says Disaster management spokesperson Johan Minnie.

Minnie added that the homeless are being supplied with food, clothing, temporary shelter and building material,

Nobody was hurt in the blaze.
