Cape Town is set to play host to the first leg of the 2008 Hot Rod World Cup which kicks off at Killarney race course on Saturday. It is the first time a race such as this one will be taking place in South Africa.
“Hot Rod racing is on an oval, approximately 500 to 600 meters in length. The cars achieve up to 120km/h over that distance. There are 23 cars racing at a time over 20 laps,” explains organiser of the event, Mac McCormack.
The day is said to feature two heats and a final between selected South African drivers against 15 hot rod racers from Eire, Northern Ireland and the United Kingdom.
Further races will take place in Polokwane and Pretoria.
“The programme will be interspersed with support races from other classes registered with the Cape Hell Drivers, as well as the spectacular Rolling Thunder Show Crash and Gash Bangers,” says McCormack.
