Health Minister Manto Tshabalala-Msimang, along with Members of the Executive Council, are currently meeting with heads of the Private Hospital Groups — Medi Clinic, Netcare, Life Healthcare and the National Housing Network — to discuss the 8% to 33% tariff increases.
A statement released by the Minister’s office states that Tshabalala-Msimang hopes all parties from the Private Hospital Groups will participate in the discussions in order to find a solution that will be beneficial to the public.
The meeting serves as a follow-up to discussions held last week with the Council of Medical Schemes and the Board of Healthcare Funders.
Tshabalala-Msimang views the private sector as a significant part of the national health system and hopes to find ways to make healthcare more affordable.
