With the Western Cape schools opening in less than a week, the department of education has assured that it’s all systems go until next week Wednesday.
Teachers return to schools on January 14, and pupils two days later.
MEC for education Cameron Dugmore says, in an interview with Bush Radio, that no problems with either teacher numbers or placements for pupils are foreseen as everything has been set in place.
Approximately 98.2% of all learner support material has already been delivered to schools.
However despite the readiness, the MEC says he does have concerns for education as a whole in the province.
“My main concern would be the concern that many parents in many of our communities are not involved enough in the life of the school and the child itself,” says Dugmore.
Despite his concerns the MEC shares his hopes for the New Year.
“I hope that we continue with our equity and redress interventions, that we begin to see more quality in every one of our disadvantaged schools. I hope our learners work hard and our parents are involved,” says Dugmore.
