The growing demand for Oncology services has prompted Netcare N1 City Hospital to build a new Oncology unit. Construction of the new unit is set to start on Monday (7 January 2008).
According to Nursing Manager at Netcare N1 City Hospital, Lettie Blom, there is a great need for oncology services in the region.
“We have received government approval to build the Oncology Unit at our hospital. We hope the construction activities will not cause too much disruption for any of our patients or visitors,” she says.
After completion, the new oncology unit at the hospital will have two radiation bunkers and the current chemotherapy facilities will be moved to the oncology unit. The construction activities should be completed by the end of this year.
In addition to the new Oncology unit, the hospital is also building a new parking deck that will help resolve the current lack of sufficient parking experienced at the hospital.
“A temporary arrangement has been made with N1 City Mall, where parking has been secured for patients and visitors, as well as hospital personnel until the hospital’s new parking has been constructed,” says Blom.
Notice boards will be placed at strategic points to provide directions to the hospital’s temporary new parking site.
Blom apologises for any inconvenience the building activities may cause to the community that the hospital serves.
