Renewal of driver’s licences puts pressure on City’s Testing Centres

The credit card type driving licenses issued in 2003 are due for renewal in 2008 after expiration of the five year period of validity.

According to the spokesperson for Traffic Services, Searle Johannes, the high number of licences issued during 2003, has resulted in a greatly increased number of applications for renewals at most of the City’s Driver’s Licence Testing Centres (DLTCs).

“The high demand has affected service delivery and delays are expected. Applicants are therefore requested to be patient when renewing their driver’s licences. It will also assist our staff if renewal applications are submitted as early as possible,” says Johannes.

Johannes added that the unforeseen technical problem with the diginet lines which affected the E-Natis network at the Awie Kempen DLTC in Bellrail Road, Bellville has impacted on service delivery.

“It is understood that the situation will be rectified shortly. Transactions such as driving licence card collections can still be done and persons who have learner’s licence appointments are being accommodated,” says Johannes.

Transactions can be carried out at other testing centres, such as the Kuils River DLTC.

Motorists who want to renew their drivers licence can do so at any DLTC.

“Those who will not be renewing their drivers licence before the expiry date will be compelled to take out a temporary driver’s licence if they do intend on driving,” adds Johannes.
