A 34 year old man, who is employed as a clerk and reservist by the SAPS, was arrested on Monday morning at his Wynberg home in connection with the alleged abduction and rape of three women all aged 21 years old, in November 2007.

“The arrest was effected by detectives who followed up on information received after an identikit of the suspect was published in the media since last week Friday,” says police spokesperson Billy Jones.

According to Jones the incident occurred in the early morning hours on Saturday, 9 November last year. At about 4AM the three women were driving from Wynberg to Athlone when they were allegedly pulled over in the Lansdowne area by the man who drove behind them in a white BMW with a blue light on the dash-board.

“The man produced an identity card similar to that of SAPS and instructed them to accompany him in his private vehicle,” says Jones.

According to Jones the suspect drove to the Du Toitskloof Mountains where he drugged them and raped two of the women.

“He tied their hands and feet before he fled the scene. The three victims were found later that morning at about 07h30 by a man who was cycling on his mountain bike. The man then contacted the police who launched the investigation and search for the suspect,” he added.

The 34 year old man is facing charges of abduction and rape.

According Jones the suspect is scheduled to appear in the Wynberg Magistrate's Court today.
