Dale Steyn, the assassin of the South African bowling attack will go into his next series against Bangladesh next month with every likelihood of getting 100 Test wickets quicker (in terms of matches played) than any South African has ever done.
“South Africa’s fast bowling ace has already taken 91 wickets in only 18 matches, and if he achieves a hundred, that’s take another nine wickets in the next three matches, (that's more than) any other South African has done,” says media officer at Cricket South Africa, Michael Owen Smith.
He adds that the previous best were Allan Donald and Hugh Tayfield, who both took 22 matches to get to a hundred test wickets.
Steyn’s 20 wickets in the Castle Test Series against the West Indies to earn his second Castle man of the match accolade of the summer, took his career test total to 91 wickets in only 18 matches.
