‘Crime prevention critical for success in Central City’

The Central City Improvement Districts’ (CCID) Tasso Evangelinos says that more than 2300 preventative measures and 254 arrests were made in the Central City in the week of 24 to 30 January 2008.

“These positive results are due to the strong partnership that exists between CCID security, SAPS, Metro Police, Law Enforcement and the Camera Unit,” says Evangelinos.

The CCID’s Security Manager, Muneeb Hendricks, sees crime prevention as a key focus in the Central City.

“Preventative measuers- implemented to stop crime before it happens- now form an integral part of the overall CCID security strategy. The strategy includes stop and search actions, warnings, medical assistance, monitoring of illegal trading, questioning of suspicious-looking people and public assistance,” explains Hendricks.

According to Evangelinos, the 2007 season was also a remarkably safe one, “We are winning the battle against crime in the Central City thanks to the new era of co-operation between private and public law enforcement organisations.”
