The National Department of Public Works says that their Department is going to spearhead the efforts to apply the Energy Efficiency programme in all government owned and leased buildings.

“The Department of Public Works as part of its mandate is to manage all the fixed assets of government.

One of the duties we’ve got as a department towards the country is to implement the decisions that have been taken by cabinet,” says the department’s spokesperson Lucky Mochalibane.

Mochalibane says that government departments are going to promote the efficient individual use of air conditioners and heaters as to centralized systems.

“We have spoken about the instillation of energy efficient (light) bulbs; we also spoke about using cut controlled devices which will regulate the amount of power or energy which is being used.

Meanwhile Eskom says that no loadshedding is currently expected but that consumers should continue to use electricity sparingly.
