The CEO of Cricket South Africa (CSA) Gerald Majola made a statement on Sunday stating that the motion taken by the CSA’s General Council on Saturday to eliminate Mickey Arthur as a national selector, was unconstitutional.
According to CSA’s Media Officer Michael Owen Smith, Majola’s statement stated that Mickey Arthur is contracted by Cricket South Africa (Pty) Ltd, and his contracted duties include being a national selector.
“Only the board of directors of CSA (Pty) Ltd can change this, and therefore the resolution taken at the General Council’s teleconference on Saturday to remove Mr Arthur from the selection process is unconstitutional, “ Majola’s statement said.
The statement went on to say that the teleconference-which Majola wasn’t part of- was called by CSA’s President Norman Arendse, to discuss selection and transformation policies.
It’s been reported that Majola made contact with the convenor of selectors, Joubert Strydom on Sunday. He has informed him that the same selection panel will finalise the team to tour Bangladesh.
Joubert Strydom (convener), Mickey Arthur (national coach), Vincent Barnes (assistant national coach), Graeme Smith (captain), Mustapha Khan (selector) and Shafiek Abrahams (selector) makes up the panel of selectors
The team set to tour Bangladesh will be announced on Monday once three players have completed fitness tests, namely Hashim Amla, André Nel and Neil McKenzie.
