One of the men who escaped from the Bellville Magistrates Court cells last Tuesday has been detained by police.
Deodath Adams was arrested on Saturday evening in the Paarl area after the search for him and Raymond Hendricks who stand accused of murder escaped from the holding cells before they were scheduled to appear in court.
“Unfortunately we won’t be able to reveal more specifications in terms of exactly where and what he was doing but this will form part of evidence to be presented in court,” says police spokesperson Elliot Sinyangana. However police are still searching for Hendricks who escaped with Adams.
In August 8 2007 the two were arrested for a double murder that occurred in Delft on 24 May last year. 17-year-old Simthebred Ntengento and 20-year-old Unathi Mavuduka were found murdered in Leiden, Delft by passers-by.

“Their bodies were found partially clothed (only underwear), hands tied behind their backs and single bullet wounds to their heads. The investigation into murder case has led to the arrest of the two suspects,” says police spokesperson Billy Jones.
“An internal disciplinary investigation of negligence have instituted against two identified police members at the Bellville court in this regard,” says Jones.
Raymond Hendriks (alias Mafunza) - pictured on the right - who is described as dark of complexion, 1.5 metres tall, medium built, has short black hair and brown eyes. Jones says the suspect is regarded as dangerous and possibly armed.
