On Monday morning a taxi driver was wounded during a shooting incident in Delft.

“A green Toyota Venture taxi with passengers stopped in Symphony Way. The driver got out of the vehicle and approached a white Toyota Cressida that stopped behind the Venture,” says police spokesperson, Bernadine Steyn.

She adds that an argument occurred between the two drivers during which the driver of the Cressida allegedly took out a firearm and fired a single shot at the driver of the Venture.

“The 26 year-old driver (of the Venture), who resides in Delft-South sustained a bullet wound to his right buttock. He was taken to hospital and is currently in a stable condition,” explains Steyn.

Steyn says that shortly after the incident the driver of the Cressida (who also lives in Delft-South) was arrested in Philippi for attempted murder. “We confiscated a licenced 9mm pistol that belongs to the suspect”.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Bellville Magistrates Court soon.
