The extreme drug resistant TB has claimed 33 lives in the Chest Clinic in Cape Town, and it has been reported that only 4 have been cured of this deadly pandemic. According to Cape Times, Doctor Sweetness Siwendu revealed the statistics at the TB conference in Durban yesterday.
It was also revealed that about 60 percent those who died were already on treatment. Tygerberg and southern Districts are recognized as having the highest number of patients with the pandemic. This is usually blamed to substance abuse.
Almost 93 percent XDR patients were resistant and patients in Uitsig in Tygerberg hospital were found that they were more likely to die than others in their households.
