The City of Cape Town says residents don’t have to worry about a bad taste and odour to the drinking water in certain suburbs.
Director of Water and Sanitation Lungile Dhlamini says water originating in the Theewaterskloof Dam is entirely safe to drink, despite a weird smell and taste. It is caused by an alga that multiplies in dams during the summer due to higher temperatures.
It normally dissipates after four to five weeks. Additional activated carbon treatment is being applied.
