A construction worker was badly injured yesterday when a pallet of bricks fell on him at a construction site in the Century City area.

“When ER24 paramedics arrived they found a twenty five year old man lying on his back near the pallet of bricks. On the paramedics initial assessment they found that the patient could not move his legs but was in a stable condition,” said ER24’s Tristan Wadely

The paramedics took every precaution in preparing the patient for transport to hospital and used full spinal immobilisation.

“Milnerton Medi-Clinic was put on standby to receive the patient by the ambulance crew. After the assessment at hospital a spinal injury was confirmed as well as internal bleeding,” said Wadely

The patient is currently in ICU at Milnerton Medi-Clinic in a serious but stable condition. “The paramedics could no determine the exact point or from how high the pallet fell,” said Wadely

Safety officers on the site were investigating the incident.
