The Independent Electoral Commission says it will make the official announcement of the results of Wednesday’s election in Pretoria at five this afternoon.
But the three big provisional winners are the African National Congress which has again been entrusted with running the country, the Democratic Alliance which has taken the Western Cape and the Congress of the People which has become the official opposition in five provinces.
It doesn’t look as though the ANC will achieve its predicted two-thirds majority nationally, but spokesperson Jessie Duarte says they are not so concerned about the percentages any more. She says they understand that their mandate is solid and they are very happy about that.
