An SMS service developed in South Africa to spread the message about HIV/AIDS is now reaching a million South African’s daily. The text Alert messages are issued in English, Zulu, Xhosa, Sesotho Tswana and Sepedi.
This initiative is is a joint project with the National AIDS Helpline. Since the start of the project ,calls to the AIDS Helpline have increased by 300%.
Project Masiluleke takes advantage of the popularity of “please call me” SMS’s which are widely used by mobile phone owners by filling HIV/AIDS related information as part of the “please call me “service.
