National Police Commissioner Bheki Cele says no police officer should be killed while having a gun at hand.
Speaking at a passing out parade in Pretoria, Cele said trainees were produced to protect South Africans and not for the grave.
Cele was addressing nearly one-thousand-700 trainee officers.
Cele was quick to add that the police should not be trigger happy, but they must still be decisive in protecting law abiding citizens and their own lives.
