High profile government and African National Congress personalities, including Tokyo Sexwale and Gwede Mantashe, attended a memorial service for the late Manto Tshabalala-Msimang in Durban this morning.
The former health minister died last week after complications relating to her 2007 liver transplant. Her daughter Pulani Kingston read out an obituary in the Durban City Hall, saying her mother had fought for the freedom people are enjoying today.
Some reports say around 1hundred people, including nurses in full uniform, attended the service.
Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe will speak at a ceremony in the Pretoria City Hall this afternoon.
Tshabalala-Msimang’s official funeral will take place in the capital tomorrow morning.
