More than 80 traffic fines were issued to drivers driving without licenses and as much as 60 for driving unlicensed vehicles.
This came as a result of a joint operation between the Metro Police and the South African Police service over the weekend.
The operation in Woodstock also saw two motorists arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.
Metro Police’s deputy Chief, Yolanda Faro says another suspect was arrested for the same offence in South Field.
Faro says all suspects were to appear in the Bellville, Wynberg, Cape Town, Atlantis and Mitchell’s Plain court today.-
“The high number of motorists driving under the influence of alcohol as well as the high number unlicensed drivers on our roads is a course of concern,” Faro said.
Faro says drunken driving is a serious offence and motorists are warned that the metro police together with other law enforcement agencies will be out in force to deal with those who make themselves guilty of offence.
“Those who do not posses a valid driver’s licences are placing the lives of law abiding road users at risk by driving without a license and will be dealt with accordingly,” Faro added.
