The Institute for Security Studies says the announcement that government will introduce an annual victims crime survey is a major boost in the ongoing fight against crime.
The Institute says such a survey will give government and the people of South Africa a better view of the overall crime situation in the country.
Senior researcher Johan Burger says the figures will also indicate crimes that have not been reported to police.
The Institute also calls for the survey not be done by police.
