A suspect wanted for the murder and rape of a 16 year old girl in Villiersdorp was arrested yesterday.

The suspect, Aäron Setona also known as “Papie” , allegedly raped the girl on Monday, in an orchid while she was passing through it on her way to school.

Captain Frederick van Wyk said the father went to investigate after he was alerted by his daughters screams. The suspect then attacked him with a knife.

When the deceased’s father returned with assistance, her body was found next to a river with several stab wounds.

“Further investigation and support from the general public, as well as security company, assisted SAPS Villiersdorp. Regular information was received which led the SAPS to a farm in the district of Joubertina,” said Van Wyk.

The Port Elizabeth flying squad followed up on the information and arrested the suspect early yesterday morning.

The man is currently in police custody .

He will appear in the Caledon Magistrate Court tomorrow.
