Deputy Water and Environmental Affairs Minister Rejoice Mabudafhasi will launch the “All Hands on Waste” project as well as the “Go Green Bus” mobile exhibition unit at Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape on Wednesday.
The projects are aimed at educating the local community on effective waste management principles.
Last year the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality was declared overall winners of the Greenest Municipality Competition under the Metropolitan category in the annual competition.
The competition was organized by the Department of Environmental Affairs.
The department says the total prize money of R1.5 Million won in two consecutive Greenest Municipality Competition is released to the winners on condition that it is invested into waste management initiatives.
The department further say the initiatives must involving communities and other stakeholders to ensure sustained cleanliness.
