The NSRI is appealing to boaters, fishermen and the public to report any sighting of an injured white shark in the Miller’s Point, False Bay area.
“A diver accidentally shot the shark in the region of the gills while attempting to frighten the shark away from divers that were in the water at the time,” said NSRI spokesperson Craig Lambinon.
Lambinon said the diver insisted that although the three to four metre shark was not acting aggressively, it got close to divers and as it turned to swim away the diver shot at the shark in an attempt to scare it away but accidentally shot the shark near its gills.
Anyone who spots the shark, which may be floating or which may beach itself, should call the NSRI communications on 0823803800.
