Kensington police arrested seven suspects for the possession of drugs, ammunition, and unlicenced firearms in the area yesterday morning.

Captain Frederick van Wyk said police were conducting vehicle patrol duties in Glider Crescent in Factreton when they noticed suspicious movement at a known gang house.

As police approached the house, one of the suspects attempted to flee.

“Police gave chase and noticed how the suspect drew a firearm, but fell out of his hands. Members apprehended the suspect and seized a 9mm Norinco pistol and eight 9mm rounds. We established that the firearm was not reported as stolen,” said Van Wyk.

A search of the premises was executed during which police arrested a second suspect in possession of a shotgun and two rounds of ammunition.

“Further investigation led to the arrest of a third suspect in possession of nine 9mm rounds and two ‘stoppe’ dagga and a half mandrax tablet,” said Van Wyk.

Four other suspects, in possession of “five stoppe dagga” and four mandrax tablets were also apprehended.

The seven suspects are believed to be members of the Wonder Kids Gang.

They will appear in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
