A student nurse is in a critical condition after she was brutally attacked at her home in Oribi Village in Pietermaritzburg.

ER24’s Derrick Banks said it is believed the 28 year old woman was viciously assaulted by her husband who repeatedly shot her before allegedly fleeing the scene.

On arrival of paramedics, the victim was lying in pool of blood on the veranda of her home. She had sustained three bullet wounds to the head. Paramedics said a fourth bullet appeared to have amputated her thumb.

“Paramedics incubated the patient and took over her breathing by placing her on a ventilator as they tried to stem the bleeding and stabilize her for transport to Pietermaritzburg Medi-Clinic,” said Banks.

Police are investigating the motive for the shooting.
