President Jacob Zuma has announced he is HIV negative.
The first citizen addressed thousands of people at the national launch of the new HIV counselling and testing campaign in Johannesburg today.
Zuma said he had taken his fourth HIV test early this month and the result, like the previous three, has seen a negative outcome.
He however said although he is generally open about his personal life but sharing his results should not put pressure on any other South African to do the same.
Zuma stressed that everyone’s privacy and dignity should be respected by health workers as well as the general public.
The launch held at the Natalspruit Hospital on the East Rand, was attended by Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane, several cabinet ministers who also underwent the public test and other government officials.
