ANC will not charge Vavi

The African National Congress says they will not charge Cosatu leader Zwelinzima Vavi over claims he made that certain senior members of the party are corrupt.

The ANC says the party’s National Working Committee discussed the matter at their bi-monthly meeting and felt that charging Vavi would not be the best route to take.

The Committee opted instead to engage with Cosatu directly, and will ask them to stop public spats amongst alliance members.

ANC spokesperson Ishmael Mnisi says the party plans to iron out the details at an upcoming alliance conference.

Mnisi added that members of the alliance will be closely monitored in future. He says any deviant behaviour will result in serious consequences.

Mnisi says party members must be specific when raising issues of corruption.
